Video Games for PS5, Xbox, Switch & PC
Boxed games for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Switch and PC, from big new releases to much-loved classics. Every title at RozGamer shows its format, edition and PEGI age rating, with disc drives and Game-Key Cards explained without the jargon.
Physical Video Games for Every Console and PC
Our video games range covers boxed releases for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC, from launch-day blockbusters to the classics still worth owning. Physical copies have real advantages over downloads: you can lend them to a friend, keep them on the shelf for years and trade them in when you’ve finished. On Switch, most game cards also run straight from the cartridge, which saves precious console storage.
Buying a game in 2026 isn’t quite as simple as matching the logo on the box, though. Some consoles have no disc drive at all, many discs rely on a sizeable download before you can play, most boxed PC games now contain a code rather than a disc, and Switch 2 introduced Game-Key Cards. The buying guide and compatibility table below explain what each format means before you part with your money.
Buying for someone else? Double-check two things: which console they own, and whether the game’s PEGI rating suits their age. Those details matter far more than the edition or the cover art. Buying guide
How to Choose Video Games That Suit Your Console
A game that won’t load, or one that isn’t right for the person playing it, is the last thing anyone wants on release day. These are the checks worth making before you order a boxed game from RozGamer.
Look past the number on the PEGI label
PEGI rates games 3, 7, 12, 16 or 18, but the content descriptors tell you why: violence, bad language, fear, gambling, drugs, sex, discrimination or in-game purchases. That context matters when you’re buying for a younger player. You can look up any title’s full rating on PEGI.info.
Check your console can read the disc
Xbox Series S and the all-digital Xbox Series X have no disc drive, so boxed games won’t work on them. The slimmer PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro can add Sony’s separately sold Disc Drive, but the original 2020 Digital Edition can’t take one.
Leave room for installs and updates
On PS5 and Xbox, disc games install to console storage, and some of the biggest releases need well over 100GB with updates. If you’re always juggling space, an SSD from our PlayStation accessories or an expansion card from our Xbox accessories makes life easier.
Read what’s inside a special edition
Collector’s and special editions add extras such as steelbooks, art books or statues, but not every one includes the game on a disc. Some contain a download code instead, a few leave the game out entirely, and bonus content codes can carry a redemption deadline.
Pre-order with the release date in mind
A pre-order reserves your copy ahead of launch, and the expected release date is shown on the product page. Publishers set those dates and they do sometimes slip. If one moves, we’ll let you know, and you can cancel a pre-order for a full refund any time before it’s dispatched.
Compatibility
Video Game Disc and Game Card Compatibility
Check which consoles can play each type of disc or game card before you buy a physical copy.
| Disc/format | Plays on | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 disc | PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles with a built-in or add-on disc drive | Won’t play on PS4. The add-on Disc Drive fits the slimmer Digital Edition and PS5 Pro, not the original 2020 Digital Edition. |
| PS4 disc | PS4, and PS5 consoles with a disc drive | The vast majority of PS4 games run on PS5. Some offer a free or paid upgrade to the PS5 version. PS3 and older discs won’t play on PS5. |
| Xbox Series X|S disc | Xbox Series X with a disc drive | Series S and the all-digital Series X have no drive. Titles also marked for Xbox One play on that console too. |
| Xbox One, Xbox 360 & original Xbox disc | Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles with a disc drive | Nearly all Xbox One games run on Series X, except those that need Kinect. Only listed backward-compatible 360 and original Xbox titles work, and they download when you insert the disc. |
| Nintendo Switch game card | Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite and, for most games, Switch 2 | Switch Lite needs separately paired Joy-Con for games without handheld mode. Some games offer a paid Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade. |
| Switch 2 game card or Game-Key Card | Nintendo Switch 2 only | Won’t play on earlier Switch models. A Game-Key Card downloads the game over the internet and must be inserted each time you play. |
FAQs
Video Games: Common Questions
Are PS5, Xbox and Switch games region-free?
Generally, yes. Physical PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch games bought abroad will usually play on a UK console. Add-ons are the catch: on PlayStation, downloadable content has to match the region of the game, and digital codes are normally tied to the store region of your account, so a UK code needs a UK account. Buying UK editions avoids the problem.
Will my PS4 and Xbox One games play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Most will. A PS5 with a disc drive plays the vast majority of PS4 discs, but not PS3, PS2 or PS1 games. Xbox Series X plays nearly all Xbox One discs, apart from games that need Kinect, plus selected Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles. Series S and the all-digital Series X can’t read discs at all, so digital copies are the only option there.
What is a Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card?
A Game-Key Card looks like a normal game card, but it holds a key to download the game rather than the full game itself. You need an internet connection and enough free storage for the first download, and the card must be in your Switch 2 whenever you play. Because the licence lives on the card, you can still lend or sell it. Nintendo UK explains more.
Can I return a video game if I change my mind?
Only while it’s still sealed. Boxed games get the same 14-day cancellation window as anything else bought online, but the Consumer Contracts Regulations let retailers refuse change-of-mind returns on games that arrived sealed and have since been opened. Faulty games are a separate matter, covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 whether opened or not. Returns and refunds explains the process.
Are PEGI 12, 16 and 18 ratings a legal requirement?
Yes. In the UK, PEGI 12, 16 and 18 ratings are enforceable by law, so it’s an offence for a retailer to sell those games to anyone under the age shown, whether in a shop or online. PEGI 3 and PEGI 7 work as guidance for parents. The content descriptors on the back of the box explain what earned a game its rating.
